DIY HOME OFFICE

I just moved to a new apartment! Instead of decorating the whole place at once, I’ve decided to start with the area I use most–my home office. I know a desk seems like the last place you’d want to start beautifying, but I’d like to change that! In honor of National Cubicle Day (this is a real holiday!) , I challenge you to make your desk a space that inspires you. I have a couple cute ideas to help you a long the way and it doesn’t require more than a designer box of Kleenex facial tissue! Watch and learn:

DESK 10

First things first: a pretty desk is an organized one. Before anything, you’ll want to recycle (or trash) old papers and knick knacks you no longer need. Give the surface a good wipe down for a fresh start. Think about how you can use some of your home and office supplies for different purposes. As soon as I saw Betsey Johnson’s new “Ready to Care” collection with Kleenex, I knew I hit a DIY jackpot!

Who said a facial tissue box couldn’t double as a beautifully printed flower holder? Or better yet, grab two once your finished and make them into book end vases!

DESK 8

Voila! I had two mason jars ready to go with water and cracked open the bottom to slip ’em in. Each side has a different FAB design so you can switch it around depending on your desired aesthetic.

Now on to the drawers…

DESK 3

I mention this tip as a way to organize your jewelry in my book but it works PERFECTLY for desk drawers too. Save those cardboard gift jewelry boxes to create a makeshift organizer. Each half of the box can be used to store different office supplies like paper clips, push pins, etc.

Facial tissues come to the rescue again with those smaller to-go packets. Betsey Johnson’s Kleenex collection includes a couple different designs and they all have prints on the inside too which I love. I left one side of it for facial tissues and the other is where I’m keeping my business cards. I was pretty proud of this idea. Cute, right!?

DESK 5

I’m all about a clean desk but you have to have that perfect balance of inspiration and organization. I always incorporate a vintage find or two with each area of my living space. In this case, it’s the shabby chic style chair and vintage horse clock which I found at the flea market in LA. I love the juxtaposition of the lacquer white desk, exposed brick, and vintage pieces.
